How are you serving your community in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic?
During and currently through the evolving COVID-19 Pandemic, my role has been to coordinate, and supply data to both our County Health Department on the amount of COVID-19 suspected transports, as well as research funding and resources to assure both the career and volunteer EMS Clinicians within Queen Anne’s County have all of the Personal Protective Equipment to keep them safe during this event. Additionally, assuring our stations have all equipment, disinfection, sanitizer to meet the demands of decontamination, not only daily, but after every patient contact to assure we decrease the ability for the virus to spread. I also have the distinct pleasure and honor of working along side some of the best Paramedic/EMT/Firefighters I have ever known, which keeps my job very satisfying.

What has been your most rewarding professional achievement/experience since graduating from Chesapeake College?
Since obtaining my Paramedic, personal growth while continuing education both medically and academically has allowed me to give back by teaching. I have a passion for teaching and if I can pass on information and education through the on-going EMT and Paramedic programs, then the legacy continues. We must allow our newest to grow and learn to meet the future needs of Emergency Services within not only this region, but the State, and Nation.

What advice would you like to give to current or prospective Chesapeake College students?
Dream big, set goals and never give up until your reach them. When you reach your first set of goals, drive yourself to the next level. Don’t ever let yourself become stagnate, always push to the next level.

Scott Wheatley was in the first ever mid-shore Paramedic Program conducted at Easton Hospital in conjunction with Chesapeake College. He was part of the class that paved the way for the full Chesapeake College Paramedic Program. After receiving his certificate from this program in 1994, he has continued to teach and be part of the Chesapeake College community. He currently hold a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Services Management and has served as the Assistant Chief for Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services since 2014.
