Nursing Professor is New Distinguished Chair
Assistant Professor of Nursing Crystel Farina was named the 2016 Stuart M. Bounds Distinguished Teaching Chair. Farina, who is also the Director of Simulation and Allied Health, is the fifth faculty member to receive the award.
In introducing Farina, 2015 Bounds Distinguished Chair Amy Childs said it is fitting to honor an educational innovator.
A member of the Chesapeake faculty for 12 years and a Chesapeake alum, Farina was one of 20 educators worldwide to participate in last year’s National League of Nursing Leadership Development Program for Simulation Education.
Farina’s related work in the development of the new Health Professions and Athletics Center is evidence of her commitment to providing cutting-edge learning experiences to students.
She has also been a positive force within the college community, including serving as the co-chair of a Middle States subcommittee that reviewed the critical standards dealing with assessment. She is a two-time Chesapeake Choice Teaching Award winner, pioneered the development of an iBook text for nursing students, and has been involved in numerous student-centered activities.
She is a graduate of the Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Wilmington University.
