Smithsonian’s Dr. David Skorton is 2017 Commencement Speaker

Dr. David J. Skorton, the 13th Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, will address the Class of 2017 at Chesapeake College’s commencement on Wednesday, May 24 in the Todd Performing Arts Center. Dr. Skorton, a cardiologist, was president of Cornell University from 2006-2015, when he assumed his position at the Smithsonian. Prior to Cornell, he was President of the University of Iowa. He is the first physician to lead the Smithsonian.
