Third Party Data Breach

Third Party Data Breach

Chesapeake College has been alerted that some information may have been impacted due to a third party data breach. The data breach is the result of the MoveIt transfer tool, whereby an unauthorized individual received access to files within third-party systems that contained some of Chesapeake College’s student and faculty information. While the extent of the breach still remains unclear, Chesapeake College is actively working to receive further information and ensure that impacted individuals are notified.

The breach affected millions nationwide, so it is anticipated that the investigation will be extensive and take time. In the meantime, here are some precautionary measures you can take:

  • Monitor your financial accounts
  • Check your credit report at http://annualcreditreport.com
  • Review the Federal Trade Commission’s warning signs of identity theft at https://www.identitytheft.gov/
  • Consider signing up for an identity theft protection service
