Chesapeake College Hosts Second Saturday Event

Chesapeake College Hosts Second Saturday Event

CAMBRIDGE – Celebrate Second Saturday on Saturday, Oct. 14 with an art show opening in the Leggett Gallery at the Chesapeake College Cambridge Center from 5-6:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. This month, the gallery features works by members of the Wednesday Morning Artists Club.

Two years after Chesapeake College unveiled its refurbished Cambridge Center facade celebrating their students and programs, the school reveals new window exhibits on Oct. 14 in conjunction with Second Saturday’s opening reception for the Wednesday Morning Artists Club exhibit.

Originally developed in response to the school’s outreach to Dorchester County students, residents and stakeholders for its 50th anniversary, the new exhibits preview Chesapeake Pathways, an extension of the college’s   “Your time. Your place.” marketing campaign. Featuring a bold “Pathways” mark, the design introduces five new colors and is the obverse of the 50th anniversary logo. The circular graphic contains nine individual sections representing the college’s nine concentration areas. Together, the shapes create a perfect circle, demonstrating that Chesapeake is the place people turn to at every stage and age for higher education credit and degrees, workforce development, and continuing education.

Designed by Choptank Communications in cooperation with Mid-Shore Graphics, the new Race Street-facing window displays promote the college’s nine pathways that prepare students for careers in: Arts & Humanities; Business; Criminal Justice; Education; Environment; Health Care; Hospitality; Science, Technology, Engineering & Math; and Skilled Trades.

Comprised of 20 free-standing six-foot columns and large format murals showcasing Chesapeake students and staff, the displays invite inquiry and communicate a youthful, energetic environment. Façade improvements also include upgraded lighting and a display of 2017/2018 merchandise available in the college bookstore.

Exhibit artists include: Susan Dickinson, Janet Kerr, Sue Lester, Peg McCormack, Rose Poling, Wendy Rue, Fran Saunders, and Heidi Wetzel.

This show will feature watercolor works, photography, oil paintings, acrylic paintings and mixed media pieces.

Refreshments for the opening reception will be provided by The Wine Bar. For more information, please contact Marcie Molloy at 410-827-5825 or [email protected].
