Chesapeake College Wins Employee Wellness Award

Chesapeake College Wins Employee Wellness Award

In a year of health and workplace challenges, Chesapeake College earned a Good to Great Award from national wellness provider, BRAVO.

In the award presentation, BRAVO cited Chesapeake’s work to elevate the wellness culture during a global pandemic. Like many organizations, Chesapeake shifted most employees to remote work in March of last year.

Chesapeake offers an outcome-based wellness program for employees.  Despite the challenges of a remote work environment, the college accommodated employees at home by offering online courses and activities as alternatives.  This year 82 percent of Chesapeake program participants eliminated a risk factor or maintained good health.

“This award recognizes organizations committed to employee wellness best practices in the areas of leadership support, communications, engagement, culture, and more to create a meaningful employee experience and improve population health,” according to BRAVO’s award statement.

The Good to Great Award includes a $500 charity prize. Chesapeake’s prize will be donated to the General Scholarship fund to aid students.

Both the Wellness and Benefits committees, comprised of Chesapeake employees, assist the Human Resources Department in engaging the faculty and staff in the wellness program.

Wellness Committee members are: Kirsten Blake, Angela DenHerder, Sharon Dove, Tammy Field, Chris Hall, Michele Hall, Kamal Hennayake, Brandon Hesson, Phyllis Johnston, Leia Wefelmeyer, and Cindy Zuella.

Benefits Committee members are: Susan Cianchetta, Sherri Foster, Larry Hearn, Jessica Kilby, Sandy Lindenberger, Debbie Parsons, Laura Shahan, Kim Smoloski and Ms. Zuella.
