Chesapeake recently honored the 17 Presidential Scholars for 2016-2017 in a reception with the college’s administration.

The 2016-2017 Presidential Scholars are: Julie Andrew of Easton, Rachel Beggins of St. Michaels, Taylor Bradley of Vienna, Kristen Callis of Easton, Ahmad Dajani of Cambridge, Kady Dodson of Chestertown, Kaitlin Fairbanks of Federalsburg, William Fox of Denton, Kendel Gowe of Preston, Christen Houtz of Denton, Kristen James of Stevensville, Reece Johnson of Church Hill, Samantha Jones of McDaniel, Danielle Kennedy of Galena, Meagan Owens of Cambridge, Margaret Ruppert of Stevensville and Caitlin Souder of Stevensville.

“We’re so proud to have outstanding students like all of you here at Chesapeake,” said President Barbara A. Viniar. “I encourage all of you to make the most of time here. Get involved in student clubs and organizations. Take an Honors class. You’ll find that all of these activities will enrich your experience here at Chesapeake.”

Steve Gowe, a Chesapeake College alum and father of recipient Kendel Gowe, said his family is proud of his daughter’s academic achievement and happy for the scholarship.

‘Our older daughter, Hannah, was a presidential scholar when she attended Chesapeake. We’re proud of them both for being such hard workers, and we’re financially grateful to Chesapeake. These scholarships are a huge help to families,” he said during a recent reception to honor the scholars.

Kendel Gowe is an Education major and plans to follow in her older sister’s footsteps and earn a bachelor’s degree at Salisbury. Hannah Gowe is now a 4th grade teacher with Caroline County Public Schools.
