Scholarships Fuel Student Success at Chesapeake

Scholarships Fuel Student Success at Chesapeake

Thanks to the continued generosity of donors, the Chesapeake College Foundation awarded more than $520,000 in student scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year. This financial assistance has an outsized impact on students’ lives.

“We see every day how scholarships allow Chesapeake students to pursue their dreams,” Chesapeake College Foundation Executive Director Amber McGinnis. “With their gifts, our donors are contributing to student success and, in turn, economic sustainability and a skilled workforce on the Eastern Shore.”

Students like Kate MacDonnell say receiving a scholarship can improve academic outcomes. A Physical Therapist Assistant major, this certified yoga instructor plans to bring her experience in wellness to her future healthcare career. Ms. MacDonnell received the Chesapeake College Foundation Heartfields Memorial Scholarship to pursue a degree in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program.

“Having that financial piece solved allows me to focus on my studies. Worrying about financing your education takes a toll,” Ms. MacDonnell said. “Eliminating that worry means I can use more of my energy to learn. Ultimately, I will be a better PTA.”
